‘When we speak we are afraid our words will not be heard or welcomed. But when we are silent, we are still afraid. So it is better to speak...’ — Audre Lorde

  • Read The Room

Best suited for organisation working with collectives preparing for cross-cultural exchange programs. Having been born to a long line of migratory people and being brought up in 2 different African countries, going on to live in a further 5 countries across the globe, it is a personal passion of mine to see what we have in common and take joy in the little things from one’s own culture that we don’t realise are innate to it until we are in a new context.

As a daughter of the global South, I believe it is important to understand the culture you may be going to spend time in for months or years, being curious about it in a way that fosters friendships and lifelong positive change in attitude away from charity-based thinking to a rights-based approach. This begins by recognising that our existence as people of the Global majority is already valid and nothing new – the world is simply opening its eyes to our presence.

These workshops are about working through deep seated stereotypes and preparing for a culture of listening to those we have been trained to believe we need to teach.
